As Constable Nathan Grant on When Calls the Heart, Kevin McGarry is familiar with his character's unique road to love with Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton (Erin Krakow). But while his TV persona has spent multiple seasons waiting for the perfect person to be his, Kevin is lucky to have the love of his life already at his side IRL: actress Kayla Wallace, who fans of the show are familiar with.

On Kevin and Kayla's road to love, well, they can thank When Calls the Heart for introducing them. The duo each debuted on season 6 of the show in 2019, with Kayla portraying Fiona Miller and Kevin playing the newest Mountie brought in to replace the late Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). While it's unclear when the two first began dating, by November 2020, Kevin made their romance official on Instagram.

"Photo evidence. 📸," he cheekily captioned a photo featuring two coffee mugs and polaroid pictures documenting what appeared to be a fun date night.

What's more, Kevin wasn't the only one excited about the prospect of finding love on set. Just a month later, Kayla displayed her elation over the new romance by posting an Instagram of a Christmas tree, with a photo ornament of the couple in the shape of a heart.

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear," she sweetly wrote at the time.

As the duo continued celebrating their love while working on later seasons of When Calls the Heart, Kevin and Kayla surprised fans with interesting work news. In March 2022, the couple starred in their first Hallmark movie together, titled Feeling Butterflies.

In the film, Kayla starred as a butterfly expert who expanded her love for the insect into a business. When she meets a handsome, widowed father (played by Kevin, of course), the two fall in love all while she plans his daughter's birthday party. It was a cool moment for the couple, and Kayla later posted behind-the-scenes Instagram photos of them promoting their first joint work venture outside of When Calls the Heart.

While Kevin and Kayla's work relationship was heating up, their romance soared to a new level that December. The couple announced their engagement, sharing a joint video on Instagram showing off Kayla's new ring and how happy the two were.

"Forever ❤️," read the caption for the short snippet.

While fans can normally see Kevin and Kayla on When Calls the Heart (although Kayla took some time off from season 11 to film the new series Landman), it's clear the couple's sweet moments away from the camera display how in love they are. They're also ecstatic to be planning their wedding, as Kevin shared with Entertainment Tonight in March 2024. What's more, there might even be some fun moments that could happen, like the couple singing during the nuptials.

"There’s always a chance," Kevin (who is a musician) told the outlet when asked whether he might perform during his own wedding. "Champagne, I imagine, is being served...so there’s a chance that could happen. And Kayla too. We always play. We’ll play music together. That's how it all started actually."

Well, we certainly can't wait to see what's next for the couple!
