Calling extras: Here’s how you can get on the silver screen in Kevin Costner’s new shot-in-Utah movie

ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — Calling all extras and aspiring actors in Utah! Chapter 3 in Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga” is looking for paid extras. Here’s how you can make it onto the silver screen.

The new film will begin production in St. George on various days in May and June. Jessie Vanatta, who helps with extra casting for the movie, said there are opportunities for both single-day and multiple-day work.

There is no experience needed, but the casting directors are interested in knowing if you worked on either of the first two chapters of Kevin Costner’s saga. The call for applications also welcomes any “special abilities” such as horseback riding, blacksmithing, or previous work with livestock.

Extras will be paid $150 for 12 hours of work with overtime pay available past the 12 hours.

Interested in applying? Vanatta said extras should submit their applications by emailing HorizonFilmExtras@gmail.com with the subject line “St. George Extra.” All ages are welcome to apply, but minors must have their parent or legal guardian apply on their behalf.

Submissions must include an extra’s name, age, phone number, email and a selfie taken in natural outdoor lighting. Vanatta said headshots should not be professional headshots and applicants should not wear sunglasses or hats in their photos.

The email should also include answers to the following questions:

  • Are you available to work in St. George as a local hire, meaning you do not need a hotel?

  • Do you have any scheduling restrictions anytime between May and June?

  • Are you currently a SAG-Aftra member?

  • Have you previously worked on Horizon 1 or 2, and if so, what role?

Applicants should also include accurate wardrobe sizes. Men should include their height and sizes for, jacket, beck, pant waist and shoes. Women should include their height and sizes for dress, blouse, waist and shoes. Vanatta said the sizes should be accurate and not “small, medium, large, etc.” If you’re not sure of your wardrobe size, visit a clothing store for help.

Casting directors said only submission per extra as multiple submissions will be deleted.
