Calista Flockhart Recalls Meeting 'Lascivious Old Man' Harrison Ford in 2002

Despite their 22-year age gap, Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford have one of Hollywood's most enduring second act marriages. When the couple met in January 2002 at the Golden Globe Awards, it didn't take long for Ford to win the Feud: Capote vs. The Swans star over. However, in a new interview Flockhart admitted to initially being skeptical of the 81-year-old, who was 59 at the time.

Speaking with The Sunday Times (via Fox News), Flockhart was asked if she thought, "Oh my God, Han Solo is talking to me," upon first meeting Ford, who approached her at the event alongside her Ally McBeal costar and songwriter Vonda Shepherd.

"I didn’t, because I had never seen Star Wars, which I know sounds really crazy," she admitted. "But I grew up in a small town without a movie theater."

"I was aware of who Harrison Ford was! But I didn’t think, 'Oh this is Indiana Jones,'" the 59-year-old continued. "It was more along the lines of, 'This is some lascivious old man and what is he doing at our table?' I was being a smartass."

Just recently, in a January 2024 New York Times profile, Flockhart recalled talking to Ford after the show and being "really charmed" by him, despite the fact that he apparently spilled wine everywhere.

"She spilled wine on me, or I spilled wine on her or something, and that sort of sealed the deal," Ford remembered. "I said, ‘Where do you live?’ She said, ‘I live in Brentwood.’ I said: ‘So do I. Would you want to have a drink?’ She said, ‘Well, maybe, but I have to bring my agent.’ I said, ‘OK, I’ll bring my agent, too."

"We went to the old Brentwood Bar and Grill and had a drink," he continued. "I lured her up to my house and we danced, and then I took her home. Make sure you put that in the story. And we’ve sort of been together ever since.”

And the rest is, as they said, history. Flockhart and Ford later became engaged on Valentine's Day in 2009, and later married in Santa Fe, New Mexico on June 15, 2010. The couple also share a son, Liam Flockhart Ford, whom Flockhart had adopted just a year prior to their meeting.
