Miley Cyrus & Neil Young Lose Houses In California Wildfires, Guillermo Del Toro’s Bleak House Survives – Update

UPDATE, SUNDAY 10 PM: Miley Cyrus and Neil Young became the latest celebrities to reveal that their homes had been destroyed by the Southern California wildfires.

“Completely devastated by the fires affecting my community,” Cyrus wrote on Twitter Sunday night. “I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong. I am grateful for all I have,” Cyrus said before thanking firefighters and LA Country’s Sheriff’s department and urging people to donate. (read her entire tweets below.)

In a post on his Archives site Young blasted President Donald Trump’s reaction in which the President put the blame for the fires on “gross mismanagement” of California’s forests.

“California is vulnerable – not because of poor forest management as DT (our so-called president) would have us think,” Young wrote. “As a matter of fact this is not a forest fire that rages on as I write this. We are vulnerable because of Climate Change; the extreme weather events and our extended drought is part of it.”

Added Young who had a home near Malibu, “Firefighters have never seen anything like this in their lives. I have heard that said countless times in the past two days, and I have lost my home before to a California fire, now another.”

Guillermo del Toro had much better news to share, saying he was told his memorabilia-stuffed Bleak House has survived. “Bleak House (I am told this morning) seems to be fine,” he tweeted. “Just minor smoke damage. I am aware about how much this fire has taken, how much has been lost- this is humbling and a blessing.” Bleak House holds the director’s vast horror-related collection, including more than 700 pieces of original art, life-size wax recreations of Hollywood horror characters, Alfred Hitchcock memorabilia, and various movie props.

UPDATE, SUNDAY, 12:45 PM: Wendie Malick took to Twitter to thank officials for rescuing her four horses and donkey from the fires in Los Angeles County.

The L.A. county Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Unit in Malibu rescued her animals and Malick gave thanks tweeting, “My deepest gratitude to LA County Sherriff’s Dept. and Deputy Fred Gonzales for [their] help in the [Woolsey] Fire.”

On Saturday, singer-songwriter-producer Robin Thicke documented his family’s evacuation from his home in Malibu and his girlfriend April Love Geary posted an Instagram story with a photo of their burned house saying “Our house is gone.”

Camille Grammer from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills also took to Instagram to report the unfortunate loss of her home.

“Sadly my house couldn’t be saved,” she wrote. “The courageous firefighters were able to save my cars and personal items recovered from my home.” She went on to thank the firemen that helped her saying, “I’m grateful for all of their hard work trying to save my home. Sad we lost our home but grateful that my family is safe. Luckily we quickly evacuated our house yesterday after a patrol car drove up the street announcing mandatory evacuations. I’m grateful for my lovely neighbors and friends who kept me informed and for their help this evening.”
