California School Security Officer Admits Making Explosives with Student, Selling Them on Instagram

Authorities found more than 500 lbs. of explosive materials at the residence of 27-year-old Angelo Jackson Mendiver

A California school security officer has admitted to making explosives with a male student and selling them on Instagram.

According to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of California, Angelo Jackson Mendiver, 27, who worked as a campus security supervisor at Arvin High School, pleaded guilty on Monday to conspiring to engage in manufacturing and dealing in explosive materials and mailing explosive devices, as well as making false statements to FBI agents.

Mendiver sold the explosives on Instagram and worked with the high school student to send them to residents in other states via the mail.

Following the execution of a search warrant at Mendiver’s house on June 1, 2023, 500 lbs. of explosives and explosive materials were seized from the property, and 500 lbs. of explosives and explosive materials were seized at the residence of the juvenile student.

Other items used to make explosives were also found at both of their residences, according to the authorities.

Mendiver, who “faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,00 fine for each count,” according to the release, is set to be sentenced next April 1.
