BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A California couple was looking to trade LA for La. and had their efforts to move from Los Angeles to the Baton Rouge area documented by HGTV’s “House Hunters.”

According to realtor Lisa Clingan with Latter & Blum, Hollis and Cesar Richardson-Barajas are married, and their search for a new home was filmed over five days in October and November.

She said Cesar is from El Fortín, Michoacán, Mexico and Hollis is from Folsom, Louisiana. Clingan said she has known them for four years.

“Hollis joined the Navy right out of high school in 1989 and eventually became a nurse living in Los Angeles,” Clingan said.

The Louisiana-based realtor said they got married in 2013.

“They decided to move back to Louisiana because Hollis said after missing 35 years of birthdays and holidays, it was time to come home,” Clingan said.

They considered homes in Ascension, East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes, according to Clingan. Prices ranged from $150,000 to $350,000.

On the show, she said, they looked at three homes. Financial decisions they needed to settle determined how much they could spend.

“They own a home in Los Angeles, and one of them wanted to sell it and one of them wanted to keep it as rental income. Their budget hinged on that decision,” Clingan said.

Clingan said that some of the homes they looked at “were built in the 1970s and 1980s and some of them were newer.”

Some of the properties that they looked at were ones that flooded in 2016. They were “flooded and gutted homes, some that had not been updated since they were built, were flipped which gave updated new options and new life for these homes and for people who may not be able to afford brand new construction,” said Clingan.

The “House Hunters” episode, which highlighted the couple, first aired at 9 p.m. Sunday, May 19.

During the episode, viewers learned that the couple decided to keep the home in Los Angeles and purchase the third home that they looked at on the show.

The listed price for the home was $130,000 but they got it for $120,000. It’s five minutes away from Hollis’ sister’s house. They’ve already made some renovations in the form of new cabinets and appliances in the kitchen, along with an island.

Hollis said that it was amazing to be featured on the show and “we are happy with how everything turned out.”

“We are so happy about how everything came out. It might not be the five bedrooms, four bathrooms I dreamed to have here but I’m happy and I just felt something special about the house,” Cesar said.
