Caity Lotz on saying goodbye to [SPOILER] in 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow star Caity Lotz doesn’t fully believe this is the end of the line for our fallen Arrowverse hero.
In the penultimate hour of the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover (a.k.a. the Arrow episode), Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who died in part 1, returned as the Spectre and rallied the remaining heroes for one more fight. As the Paragons fought off the Anti-Monitor’s shadow army and relit the spark of the multiverse, Spectre went head-to-head with the Anti-Monitor and died in the fight, but not before sharing one last goodbye with Barry Allen/Flash (Grant Gustin) and Sara Lance/White Canary (Lotz).
Even though it seems Oliver’s death is final this time — he doesn’t appear in the crossover’s Legends installment, and Arrow is, you know, ending in a couple weeks — part of Lotz still doesn’t buy that the character is truly gone.
“It was so weird because we shot [his second death scene after] we saw him die then come back to life, and then he died, and you’re like, ‘Wait, what’s happening?’” Lotz tells EW. “When we finally got to that last one, I don’t know… Even though Arrow is actually done and we do say goodbye to Oliver Queen, part of me is like, ‘Yeah, but you never know.’ I died and I came back to life. I guess I’m not accepting the death fully even though it is done.”
That said, Lotz does like how Oliver’s death scene played out. “It’s really beautiful and I think it’s the perfect way to bring it to an end,” Lotz in the exclusive clip above, from the “Crisis Management” behind-the-scenes featurette.
According to crossover executive producer Marc Guggenheim, it was always the plan to have Oliver die. “I always felt, and Stephen Amell always felt, that Oliver’s journey had to end with his death,” he says in the video. “Despite everything he’d done, the man he was before he became the Green Arrow and the man he was when he was the Hood, you know, killing off so many people, we felt there had to be an end to his journey that ended with some recompense — but recompense also wrapped in a bit of redemption.”
Looking ahead, Lotz tells EW that she believes the Green Arrow’s passing will challenge the Waverider’s captain. “For her, not having Oliver around is going to be really, really difficult,” she says. “In the Legends episode, [we] see just how much that affects Sara because he was the last person who knew her, the last tether to life — real life and not just time traveling [but the] normal world — and that’s gone. I think that’s definitely [taking] a bit of a toll on her.”
