Caitlyn Jenner made a promise to Robert Kardashian Sr. on his death bed — and it had to do with the Kardashian daughters

Caitlyn Jenner is shedding light on some deeply influential conversations she once had with ex-wife Kris Jenner’s first husband, Robert Kardashian Sr.

Before becoming Kim, Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian Barker's step-parent, Caitlyn phoned Robert for a sit down talk when the family simply couldn’t find the same page. "[Kris] was having a rough time with Robert in the divorce when I came into the picture," Caitlyn, 74, said of Kris in Peacock's House of Kardashian.

"He was doing everything to kind of make her life miserable. I saw what was going on from the outside and just said, 'This is ridiculous.' So, I called Robert up and said, 'Hey, let's go to dinner.'"

Caitlyn says she leveled with Robert about what was best for the family, pushing for Robert to finalize his stagnant divorce from Kris so Caitlyn (who came out as transgender in 2015) could really take over as the family’s father figure.

“I basically said to him, 'Kris is moving on. Sorry, but she's moving on,'" Caitlyn recounted. “I said, 'I can take over from here. So, let's just make this final signing of the papers as simple as possible.' And he did.”

That wasn’t the only time in their history that Caitlyn and Robert spoke about the good of the family. Years after Caitlyn and Kris wed (a marriage that lasted for 22 years), Robert spoke to Caitlyn while on his deathbed.

"He was really hurting," the I Am Cait star remembered, "and I said to him, 'Hey, remember if I was in your position, my only worry would be for my kids. That the kids are gonna get through this. I just want you to know that I will always be there for the kids.'”

Robert was receptive to the reassurance. “And he says, 'Oh, you didn't have to say that. I knew you would.' And a week later he died.”

Robert, the biological father of Kim, Khloé, Kourtney and Rob Kardashian, died in 2003 of esophageal cancer. Before his death, Kris and Caitlyn welcomed daughters Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

Peacock’s House of Kardashian details the rise of the dynasty-like Hollywood family and the entrepreneurial successes of each family member — not ignoring Kris’s past marriage, and Kim’s viral sex tape that contributed to her name recognition. The series also includes a look at the 2007 launch of Keeping Up with the Kardashians before examining the family's eventual global impact.
