After its success a year ago, a chef-collaboration dinner at Café Boulud returns Aug. 31 with advance reservations now being taken for the special event called “Voyage to Japan.”

For the multi-course dinner combining Japanese and French cuisines, executive chef Dieter Samijn once again will welcome acclaimed chef Taek “Taka” Lee.

A Japanese-cuisine specialist, Lee, who was the guest chef at “Voyage to Japan” last September, helms Oku by Takato at The Conrad Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Samijn and Lee will prepare and serve a series of small plates accompanied by sake pairings chosen by guest sommelier Carl Callewaert.

“I’m not sure if this is to become an annual event, but we just loved the passion Chef Taka put into it last year as well as our collaboration with sake sommelier Carl Callewaert,” Samijn told the Daily News. “Last year was a great success (and) we decided to bring it back … after receiving a lot of requests from guests.”

This year’s menu has not been finalized, but if last year’s is any indication, it may include as many as 12 small plates, with six emphasizing French cuisine and six Japanee cuisine.

“Voyage to Japan” on Aug. 31 will start with a 6:45 p.m. reception, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The event is $295 a person; advance reservations are required (call Cafe Boulud at 561-655-6060).

Meanwhile, the restaurant's series of monthly wine dinners continues. Next up: Aug. 24, with rosé wines of Provence’s Château d’Esclans. The four-course wine-paired dinner begins with a 6:45 p.m. reception, followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Courses are set to include Maine lobster with tomato, watermelon and almond; sea bass with tagliatelle of summer squash and a chorizo-and-basil sauce; and nut-crusted Colorado rack of lamb with confit shallots and Romano bean.

Dessert: raspberry crémeux with yuzu gelée and lime sorbet. The Château d’Esclans rosé wine dinner is $168 a person.

Reservations are required. Call 561-655-6060 or visit www.cafeboulud.com/palmbeach.
