Cactus Theater hosting classic cinema series

Cactus Theater is hosting a special Classic Cinema series including several classic films and bonus shorts before each film.

The first film was offered Sept. 6, but the remaining series runs through Dec. 20 and features two films each month on select Wednesdays.

The film screenings may be purchased individually or included in a special series pass, which includes two bonus screenings.

Also included with each screening are vintage shorts, which may include historic newsreels, cartoons, or other special features, as part of the classic cinema experience.

Individual film screenings are $7 per ticket or a series pass may be purchased for $42. Each film will be offered as a 2:20 p.m. matinee and 7:20 p.m. evening screening.

The Fall 2023 classic cinema film series includes:

∙ Sept 20: “Blue Hawaii” (1961): The first of three movies Elvis filmed in Hawaii and the film that introduced the classic song "Can’t Help Falling In Love”; starring Elvis Presley, Angela Lansbury and Joan Blackman

∙ Oct. 4: “Vertigo” (1958): Directed by the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock; starring James Stewart and Kim Novak

∙ Oct 25: “The Shining” (1980): Horror-thriller directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick; starring Jack Nicholson, Danny Lloyd, Shelley Duvall and Scatman Crothers

∙ Nov. 15: “Paper Moon” (1973): Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this film's release; directed by Peter Bogdanovich, starring Ryan O’Neal, Tatum O’Neal - winner for Best Supporting Actress - making her the youngest competitive winner in Academy Awards history

∙ Nov. 29: “Meet Me in St Louis” (1944): Directed by Vincente Minnelli; starring Judy Garland, Margaret O'Brien, Mary Astor, Marjorie Main and June Lockhart

∙ Dec. 6: “Holiday Inn” (1942): The beloved film that introduced the all-time classic song "White Christmas”; starring legendary crooner Bing Crosby and the master of dance, Fred Astaire

∙ Dec. 20: “It's A Wonderful Life” (1946): Directed by Frank Capra, this war-era masterpiece is considered one of the greatest films of all time; starring James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore
