CAA Hires Random House Exec To Boost Book Launches

Kate Childs has joined CAA in a newly created position within the agency’s Books department to create unique live events for client book releases. Formerly Director of Special Events at Random House, she will be based in CAA’s New York office.

At Random House, Childs spearheaded the conceptualizing and executing of one-of-a-kind experiences behind book launches, from exclusive author luncheons to large-scale fan retreats. The plan is to do the same for CAA clients: Childs will work in collaboration with publishing houses to develop strategic programming in support of a launch that expands upon existing fan bases and amplifies their reach to readers across multiple channels. CAA says it marks the first time an agency has provided such a service.

CAA had a strong year on the book front, with clients on the New York Times bestseller lists for a combined 60 weeks. That list includes Elizabeth Vargas’ Between Breaths, Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck and Kate Hudson’s Pretty Happy.

Also a CAA client: Megyn Kelly, who is touring now for her just-released memoir Settle for More via HarperCollins.
