CAA Hires Publishing Exec Kate Childs

Veteran publishing exec Kate Childs has joined CAA in a newly-created position within the books department to create unique live events for client book releases.

Childs will work in collaboration with publishing houses to develop strategic programming in support of a book launch that expands upon a client’s existing fan base and amplifies their reach to readers across multiple channels.

Childs will be based in CAA’s New York office and joins the agency from Random House, where she worked for the past eight years, most recently serving as director of special events and Event Partnerships. While at Random House, Childs was responsible for conceptualizing and executing one-of-a-kind experiences, from exclusive author luncheons to large-scale fan retreats.

CAA’s new service offering was established on the heels of the department’s most successful year to date, with client books on the New York Times Best Sellers list for a combined 60 weeks in the last year, including Elizabeth Vargas’ “Between Breaths,” Mark Manson’s “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck,” Kate Hudson’s “Pretty Happy,” Ainsley Earhardt’s “Take My Heart, My Child.”

CAA Book Publishing group deals include Reese Witherspoon’s Southern lifestyle book, Caitlyn Jenner’s upcoming memoir, and Helen Fielding’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby.”
