BYU's leading rusher cited for pot possession
BYU leading rusher Ula Tolutau was cited for pot possession earlier in October.
On Oct. 8, Tolutau was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for speeding and a tail light violation according to the Salt Lake Tribune. The officer that pulled the car over then allegedly smelled pot and the freshman had, uh, an interesting way of carrying the marijuana with him.
Tolutau was a passenger and was found holding a frisbee containing marijuana. He told the deputy that the pot was in a frisbee because he didn’t have a baggie. He was cited at the scene and released. No other citations were given.
“It was a relatively normal interaction,” Cannon said, noting the occupants were cooperative but initially denied the possession of a controlled substance.
Tolutau is BYU’s leading rusher with 72 carries for 303 yards and two touchdowns. The Cougars have scored just 10 offensive touchdowns through eight games this season. That’s not a misprint. BYU, 1-7, has scored more than 20 points just once this season.
A spokesperson for the school said it was aware of the citation. Former BYU linebacker Francis Bernard was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Saturday. Bernard was a member of BYU’s 2016 team but not a part of the 2017 team as a spokesperson said he didn’t enroll in classes for the fall semester.
