Byeon Woo-Seok’s Lovely Runner: Does Kim Hye-Yoon’s Grandmother Play a Key Part in Time Travel Storyline?
The beloved K-drama Lovely Runner, starring Byeon Woo-Seok and Kim Hye-Yoon, is coming to an end. The central theme of the tvN drama is time travel, and it looks like actress Sung Byoung-Sook, who portrays Im Sol’s grandmother, Jung Mal-Ja, has been playing a significant part in the time-travel storyline.
Not only is she the biggest supporter of Im Sol and Ryu Sun-Jae’s romantic relationship, but she is also doing her best to make the two cross paths in different timelines. She seems to remember everything that has happened between Sun-Jae and Sol despite the changes in the events as well. Thus, it will be quite intriguing to witness what role her character will play in the final two episodes.
Byeon Woo-Seok’s Lovely Runner K-drama: Signs that Im Sol’s grandmother significantly contributes to the story
As mentioned above, Im Sol’s (Kim Hye-Yoon) grandmother, Jung Mal-Ja (Sung Byoung-Sook), plays a key role in the storyline of Lovely Runner. In episode 14, she intentionally went to Ryu-Sun-Jae’s (Byeon Woo-Seok) father’s restaurant. She knew her actions would lead Sun-Jae and Im Sol to meet again. When Sun-Jae safely took Jung Mal-Ja home, he met Sol. Seeing them together, Mal-Ja even went on to tell Sol that she knew how much she missed Sun-Jae. It indicates that Mal-Ja did everything calculatedly.
Apart from that, from the very beginning of Byeon Woo-Seok’s Lovely Runner, Mal-Ja has always been a big supporter of her granddaughter, Im Sol, and Ryu Sun-Jae’s relationship. In an earlier episode, when Sol was frantically looking for Sun-Jae’s watch so she could return to the past to save him, it was her grandmother, Mal-Ja, who was wearing the watch. While giving it to Sol, she said she had kept it safe for her as she knew how important it was.
Besides that, throughout the K-drama till now, Mal-Ja keeps saying things that denote that she knows all about the different timelines and Sol’s time travel journeys. However, how she knows those things is yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, her actions have definitely helped Sol and Sun-Jae in their romantic journey.
