Button Accordion Festival arrives in Sharon

May 24—SHARON — Dave Bey nailed a song on the button — the button accordion, that is.

"Sounded good," a fellow accordion enthusiast hollered to Bey, a Kernersville, N.C., resident.

Others at the Apollo Maennerchor Club in Sharon quickly joined in playing their instruments.

Friday was the start of the weekend-long National Button Accordion Festival at the Maennerchor Club. On Saturday and Sunday the event starts at noon and ends about 10 p.m. both days.

This is the third consecutive year the Sharon ethnic club has served as the event's venue, with hundreds expected to attend.

"We have good family fun here," Ron Pivovar, a local accordion player and an event organizer, said.

Traditional German and eastern European food will be sold by the club during the festival to match the music.

Entrance to the festival is $8 on Friday and $10 both Saturday and Sunday with a three-day ticket costing $25. Children under 13 are free.
