Business notebook: Condley and Company, 3rd Street Printing win Torch Awards

The Better Business Bureau of Abilene and the Big Country announced in a news release Monday that two local businesses — Condley and Company and 3rd Street Printing and Sign Company — are the winners of the 2022 Torch Awards for Ethics.

The award recognizes organizations what "maintain a solid commitment to leadership character, social responsibility and high standards of organizational ethics that benefit their customers, employees and communities," the release said, with winners chosen by a committee of local business leaders and professors.

According to the release, other finalists for this year's Torch Awards were: Creative Cakes, Storey Plumbing, Justice Construction, TD Electric, Diamondback Painting, Wyatt Electrical Services, County Waste Service and Batts Communications.

Atmos Energy aids Global Samaritan Resources book room

Atmos Energy announced in a news release Wednesday that it had recently donated $7,500 to Global Samaritan Resources to support the nonprofits Summer Open Book Room, which provides free books to Big Country residents.

The donation, which will fund promotion, operations and materials for the book room, is part of Atmos Energy's Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities drive to aid education, literacy, energy assistance and food security in 1,400 communities the company serves, the release said.

“We are excited to once again partner with Global Samaritan Resources and their mission in this unique effort to support those in our local community," Shaun Martin, manager of public affairs with Atmos Energy, said in the release. "This book room is just another way we can invest in education and literacy opportunities here in Abilene.”

Global Samaritan's book room at 2074 N. First St. is open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through Aug. 10.

U-Haul names new local dealership

U-Haul Company of Texas has announced that 4Reigns Motors, at 2450 S. 14th St., is now a U-Haul neighborhood dealer.

Products and services such as U-Haul trucks, towing equipment, moving supplies and in-store pickup for boxes will be available.
