A burglar broke a window at Great Harvest Bread Co. and took a charity's donation box
A burglary at Great Harvest Bread Co. in Westerville has shut down the bakery for cleaning and repairs.
Owners have given no indication when they’ll reopen — a post on social media says it’s closed “until further notice” — but two men were inside the business Thursday afternoon cleaning equipment.
According to Westerville police, a customer waiting for his order at Massey’s Pizza in the same South State Street retail center noticed the window broken at Great Harvest and called officers at about 7 p.m. on Jan. 5.
Jim Horstman, the owner of the bakery franchise, told police that a donations box for the Westerville Area Resource Ministry had been taken from the front counter, although cash drawers in a back office were untouched.
Police found a rock inside the business, as well as a cigarette butt. They have been checking surveillance cameras of nearby businesses. The bakery itself had no cameras or alarms.
Great Harvest is an employee-owned national bakery and cafe chain with more than 200 locations across the country. In addition to the Westerville cafe, there’s a Great Harvest Bread Co. at 4723 Reed Road in Upper Arlington.
