Burger King Is Offering the Impossible Whopper After First Tricking People Into Thinking It's Beef

A Whopper isn’t a Whopper without the beef, right? Apparently, wrong.

Starting April 1, 59 Burger King locations in and around St. Louis will be testing the Impossible Whopper, a completely meatless version of BK’s most famous burger. Despite being plant-based, Burger King promises the Impossible Whopper’s patty is just as juicy and crave-worthy as the standard beef.

Ahead of April’s Fools Day, Burger King pranked some of its most loyal customers, serving them the Impossible Whopper but saying it was the same Whopper they’ve always known and loved, and then filming their reactions when they learned the truth. The result? Many shocked burger fans, and a hilarious video that went up on Monday.

“We conducted an experiment to evaluate how well Whopper fans know their beloved Whopper,” a narrator begins, voicing over footage of people biting into what they don’t yet know are Impossible Whoppers. “The people you will see here are real people, and these are their real reactions.”

Interviews begin, with one man saying, “I’ve probably eaten about two Whoppers a week for the last 20 years.”

“I absolutely love beef,” said one woman. Another man declared, “If it’s not beef I don’t want it.”

The narrator continues: “Little do they know, their Whopper patty was actually made from plants.”

The just-pranked beef-lovers proceeded to have a cow when they learned the truth, laughing and spewing obscenities and refusing to believe it. “That’s impossible, it tastes just like a Whopper should taste,” says the man who eats two Whoppers a week.

The narrator goes on to tell viewers that the Impossible Whopper patty contains 0g of cholesterol and 17g of protein, stating that it’s 100% Whopper, but 0% beef.

In addition to the plant-based patty, the Impossible Whopper comes topped with sliced tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles and sliced white onions, all on a toasted sesame seed bun.

The Impossible Burger is slowly becoming more available nationwide with restaurants including White Castle, Umami Burger, Bareburger, and Wahlburgers all offering it.
