With old-guard fast food chains like Hardee's closing stores nationwide and excitement at fever pitch as new Whataburger restaurants inch closer to opening, the last franchise you'd expect to roll into town would be Burger King, but that's just what's happening Tuesday in Bogart.

Located in Oconee County at 2430 Monroe Highway, the city's first-ever Burger King is scheduled to open at 3 p.m., when the first 100 customers through the doors will be treated to giveaways, games and prizes, followed by a 4 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony with owner Bill Jones of Jones Petroleum and Bogart Mayor Janet Jones.

According to a press release emailed to the Banner-Herald, the new "elevated" restaurant incorporates a modernized design that offers an "enhanced guest experience" that will bring it up to date with its competitors. Founded in Florida in 1954, the Burger King chain last fall announced a $400 million "Reclaim the Flame" campaign to overhaul outdated kitchen and point of sale tech in its restaurants.
