Bunches of brunches surround Erie; Some taking reservations for Mother's Day

Is there anything better than a big breakfast/lunch on a weekend morning? Nothing to run to, nothing to do but the day. Brunch is by far my favorite. Apparently plenty of Erie folks agree, because I was overwhelmed by the number of restaurants I've found that serve late-morning repasts.

While some places are planning specials for Mother's Day, others that regularly serve weekend brunches are going to be closed for the holiday. No matter when you decide brunch sounds good, we highly suggest making reservations soon.

Altered State Distillery, 1535 W. Eighth St. is hosting Mother's Day Jazz Brunch with ABTrio Live from 1 to 4 p.m. ABTrio is an improvisational modern jazz group whose work is peppered with traditional jazz, pop, modern hip hop and funk. The distillery will be open noon to 5 p.m., the brunch will take place from noon to 3 p.m. and music will play 1 to 4 p.m. The Bloody Mary Bar will be available as will the full cocktail menu and award-winning slushies. Beechwood Inn's Hardwood Grille, 4102 West Lake Road, is open Sundays for brunch, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Call for reservations 814-459-2427.

Beechwood Golf Club, 6401 Gorski Road, Fairview, hosts weekly brunches Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make reservations by calling 814-833-0527.

Calamari's Squid Row, 1317 State St., 814-459-4276, Sunday brunches weekly from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cloud 9, 25 E. 10th St., 25 will be offering Mother's Day Brunch starting at 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended. Parties up to 8 and seatings are limited to 1 1/2 hours. Coffee in the Park, 4007 Main St., Harborcreek, 814-823-3914, hosts brunches every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Colony Pub & Grill, 2670 W. Eighth St., Millcreek Township, 814-838-2162. Mother's Day dinner buffet 2 to 8 pm. Both buffet and special menu items available. $32.99 for adults, $13.99 for age 3-10, free for 3 and younger.

The Cork 1794, 900 West Erie Plaza, will serve brunch 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., dinner 2 to 8 p.m. Adults, $49, children 6-12, $14 per person, children 5 and younger, free. Julius, 1607 State St., 814-315-9311, offers Sunday brunch, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The five-course meal is $35. It includes one drink, choice of Bellini or bloody Mary.

Lakelands Restaurant & Pub, 9690 West Lake Road, Lake City, is building a pickleball court that owners hope will be ready Mother's Day weekend. The patio will also be open, weather permitting. On Mother's Day, they'll be open for dinner 4 to 8 p.m., serving everything off the regular menu, as well as some chef’s specials. Call to make Mother’s Day reservations at 814-774-7271.

For the second straight season, the Erie SeaWolves will host a special Mother’s Day Buffet in the UPMC Park Stadium Club on May 14. Fans can purchase a special game ticket in the Stadium Club that includes a buffet featuring herb-crusted fresh salmon, honey ham steaks with pineapple glaze, a ballpark salad with chicken, tomato bisque, roasted red skin potatoes, California fresh vegetable medley, fresh fruit and mini cheesecake bites for $49/person. Advance purchase is required. The event is limited to 100 guests. Buffet service will offered from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the UPMC Park ticket office or online at SeaWolves.com. Deadline for tickets is Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Skunk and Goat Tavern, 17 W. Main St., North East, will host a Mother's Day brunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. offering breakfast favorites, soup, salad, appetizers and cocktails. Starting at 2 p.m., guests can choose from the Mother's Day dinner menu through 8 p.m. Features include shrimp, salmon and crab, plus steak, chicken, pork and pasta. The Flower Cart is offering fresh flowers during the meal. Cost is $35 and will be added to the food bill. Reserve flowers by calling The Skunk and Goat at 814-347-9078. Watson Curtze mansion, 356 W. Sixth St., is the site of a tea tasting Mother’s Day with hosts Executive Director Cal Pifer and Assistant Director of Facilities Adam Macrino from 10 a.m. to noon. Tasting will include white tea, black tea and oolong tea along with finger sandwiches and scones from Cafe 7-10 and a bit of history about each unique loose-leaf tea served.
