Bumble responds to Sharon Stone being blocked from dating app for 'fake' profile
If Sharon Stone can’t even catch a break on dating apps, there’s no hope for the rest of us.
The Oscar-nominated Casino and Basic Instinct actress, 61, revealed Monday morning that she’d been blocked from Bumble — a location-based dating app that, in heterosexual matches, allows the female user to send the first message — after users mistakenly reported her profile for false impersonation.
“I went on the @bumble dating [site] and they closed my account. Some users reported that it couldn’t possibly be me! Hey @bumble, is being me exclusionary?” the performer (next set to appear in HBO’s upcoming sequel series The New Pope) tweeted. “Don’t shut me out of the hive.”
She later shared a photo with a message from the app, stating that she’d been blocked for violating the app’s “values” with an allegedly fake profile.

Director Ava DuVernay responded to Stone’s tweet with a supportive GIF of Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez cheering Patricia Arquette’s acceptance speech at the 2015 Oscars, while another user responded: “They figured mere mortals could not keep up with you.”

In October 2018, Stone revealed to PEOPLE that she had essentially moved on from the idea of finding a romantic partner as she raised her children, Quinn Kelly, 13, Laird Vonne, 14, and Roan Joseph, 19.
“I think somewhere in the back of your mind you think maybe one day you won’t be a single parent,” she told the publication “Then, eventually you realize, I think it’s better. I’m no longer hoping for someone.”
“Now, I sit down and tell them, this is where I have to teach you how to be a gentleman and a man and we’re going to figure that out together,” she continued. “There were times that we thought maybe there would be someone else to help with that, but there isn’t. So that’s what we’re doing now.”
When reached for comment, a Bumble spokesperson informed EW Stone’s profile had been restored, and that the company is “so honored that Ms. Stone wants to be a part of the Hive.”
“However, being the icon that she is, we can understand how so many of our users felt it was too good to be true once they noticed her profile wasn’t photo verified,” the statement continued. “Photo verification is just one of the many ways to connect with confidence on Bumble. In light of our mixup with Sharon Stone, we’d like to extend an invitation for her to come to Austin and allow us to host her at the hive for a few hours of profile prep and great food!”
Sounds like a date to us.
