Bumble and more pets up for adoption in Phoenix-area shelters this week

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Dancer and Prancer: From Santa's sleigh to your home

Appropriately named for the holidays, these two brothers are hoping to dash their way into your heart! Dancer and Prancer are 9-month-old Alaskan Huskies who were rescued by the Arizona Humane Society after it was discovered there were too many pets in the home to properly care for.

As one can imagine, the pets from this house were not given the proper socialization they needed leading to these two being a bit shy and in need of a patient family that lets them go at their own pace. As most young pups are, Dancer and Prancer are very food motivated and would also benefit from training. Training not only helps pets learn new skills but helps strengthen the bond with their owner and become more confident in themselves.

After being evaluated by AHS Behavior Team members, it was determined that Dancer and Prancers are Best Buddies, also known as a bonded pair. This means they rely on each other for comfort and companionship, which means they would do best being adopted together. Loving, playful and full of zest for life, there will be endless joy when adding these sweet and lovable boys to your home!

How to adopt: Interested adopters can get double the love with Dancer and Prancer at AHS’ South Mountain location. Their two-for-one adoption fee includes their neuter surgeries, current vaccinations, a microchip, and a follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital. Batman: Looking for a hero

Just in time to welcome in the New Year, Batman is ready to claim his new forever home.

This sleek 2-year-old black cat had been adopted as a kitten, but unfortunately the owners developed health issues that prevented them from being able to care for him, so he is now back at Sun Cities 4 Paws Rescue and is ready to go.

Batman had been an only cat but gets along well with other cats. He is very friendly, not the least bit shy, and is fine with being picked up and toted about.

How to adopt: Batman looks forward to a meet and greet with you at 11129 Michigan Ave., Youngtown, at your earliest convenience. Call 623-876-8778 Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Other adoptable cats are at the shelter, 10807 N. 96th Ave., Peoria. Call 623-773-2246, same days and hours, and the Surprise PetSmart, 13764 Bell Road.
