Bradley Cooper is set to star in Steven Spielberg’s next film, according to a recent report from Variety.

The movie, Bullitt, will see Cooper play the role of Frank Bullitt — a character that was played by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film thriller Bullitt. The character is a police officer in San Francisco who is tasked with protecting a police witness in an investigation involving the mob. Things go poorly, however, and the two soon find themselves under attack.

Not too much is known about Spielberg’s take on the film, but Variety did note that the film will “tell a new story” about the character, who is often regarded as McQueen’s most iconic role. Alongside starring in the project, Cooper will also produce it.

For Cooper and Spielberg, this will technically be their first collaboration as actor and director, though Cooper is set to star as Leonard Bernstein in his own upcoming film Maestro, which Spielberg is producing.

The original Bullitt was released in 1968 and is most famous for its car chase scene that takes place through the streets of San Francisco. Since its release, that scene has often been heralded as the greatest car chase in movie history and as one of the most influential for future action films. In 2007, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
