Buffalo Meadery up for sale; coffee spot opens Sept. 18; new food truck for Springfield

This week in the Springfield-area restaurant realm: a meadery goes up for sale, a taste of Venezuelan food is coming your way and a coffee shop is set to open on Chestnut Expressway.

Buffalo's Leaky Roof Meadery is up for sale

Since 2014, owner David Rock and his son, Todd Rock, have operated Leaky Roof Meadery. According to the business's website, Todd previously worked for Mother's Brewing Company in Springfield and a Rogersville meadery before starting the Leaky Roof with his father. Recently, Lucky Roof began brewing and selling beer.

According to VR Business Sales, which is facilitating the sale of the business, the 2019 death of David Rock's wife has made it difficult for David and Todd to run the meadery. The business assets are listed at $175,000, and VR's sister company, Professional Real Estate LLC, is listing the property for $360,000.

Mead is an alcoholic drink made by fermenting honey, water and yeast.

Metro Eats, 2463 W. Sunshine St., will gain a new business: Venezuelan food truck Caracas House will open sometime this month, according to a Facebook post.

The food truck plans to offer Venezuelan cuisine such as arepas, empanadas and cachapas.
