Budweiser and ACE Content’s New Doc ‘Kings of Beer’ Delves Into the Super Bowl of Brewing Beer (Exclusive Video)

America certainly loves its beer, and it’s maybe never been as apparent as in the new trailer for ACE Content and Budweiser’s documentary, “Kings of Beer,” which provides a never-before-seen look at the rigorous standards and intense competition that characterize the brewing of the iconic American lagers.

The exclusive trailer above illustrates the documentary subjects’ passion for brewing beer. One interviewee even calls the competition, “like winning the Super Bowl, or the World Series.”

“‘Kings of Beer’ is a story about regular people from all over the world who dreamed of becoming brewmasters and who share an uncompromising ambition to be the best at their craft,” producer and ACE Content CEO Justin V. Barocas said in a statement. “We found their stories to be incredibly inspiring and we think that anyone who wants to be the best at what they do, will love these characters too.”

ACE Content, in collaboration with Budweiser, announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Red Arrow Studios’ Gravitas Ventures to release the film in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 2. It will then be available on demand in more than 50 countries.

“Kings of Beer,” directed by Sean Mullin (“Amira & Sam”), centers around a diverse group of elite Budweiser brewmasters from 65 breweries and 23 countries as they battle it out in an intense competition to brew the best American lager, which, according to the film, is regarded as the most difficult beer to brew.

Judged by an illustrious group of experts who are sequestered in the historic walls of Budweiser’s “Room 220” — the most renowned room in the brewing world — the brewmaster who can brew the best, most consistent American lager over a 12-month period will bring home the coveted Global Brewmaster Cup.

“‘Kings of Beer’ is a special film, not only because of Budweiser’s role in America’s brewing history, but because for the first time we are able to offer audiences a seat in our tasting room for a firsthand look at our very personal and competitive process,” Pete Kraemer, a fifth generation brewer and the Chief Global Brewmaster at Budweiser, said in a statement. Kraemer also appears in the film. “We hope this film will shed light on the complexity of brewing and inspire more Brewmasters to come.”

UTA Marketing packaged the project with ACE, and UTA Independent Film Group brokered the theatrical deal with Gravitas on behalf of ACE and Budweiser.

“ACE Content and director Sean Mullin have done an incredible job of capturing the profound attention to detail that these brewmasters put into their craft,” said Tony Piantedosi, vice president of acquisitions at Gravitas Ventures, in a statement. “We think this film has the power to resonate with a wide audience and we are excited to share it this summer.”
