Buddy Valastro's birthday was next level this year.

In an Instagram video, his wife Lisa made him a cake for his 47th birthday on March 3. The tradition is one she carries on every year for her husband of over 21 years.

"This year I stepped it up a notch. I got pictures of dad [made of] edible paper,” Lisa said to one of her sons, who was behind the camera. “I am putting pictures of him on the bottom tier and then I gotta figure out how I’m going to decorate the other two tiers.”

The cake was truly a labor of love. Throughout the clip, Lisa meticulously piped borders around multiple layers.

“The reason why I’m showing you guys this is because sometimes you guys don’t believe that I make his birthday cake every single year, but I do!” she quipped.

While she was the baker this time, she reminded followers that she’s not as skilled as her husband.

“I know the icing is not smooth, but remember I’m not a professional baker” she said as she piped the second layer.

The finished product was a lovely, three-tier cake with sweet pictures of Buddy all lining the bottom tier. The video showed a photo of Buddy smiling next to the cake to capture his excitement.

“This is a homemade cake made with love,” Lisa said to close out the video.

PEOPLE spoke with the Cake Boss star in April about how he celebrates his birthday each year.

“Me and my wife, our birthdays are – I'm on the third and she's on the ninth –  so we always do a joint birthday together,” he said.

That year, he shared their low-key celebration details. “We had the whole family over. Amazing meal, just chilling with the family, having a great time hanging out,” he added.

More recently, in February, he celebrated Lisa with a sentimental Valentine’s Day tribute on Instagram.

"I made a wish and it came true with you," the celebrity chef captioned the post. "You make me complete and you're the love of my life that I will cherish forever."

"Your [sic] my beauty, my love, my best friend and I love you," the Buddy vs. Duff star continued.
