Buddha Lo Shows a Behind-the-Scenes “Luxury” of Filming Top Chef Season 20
Bravo’s Top Chef Season 20 features 16 chefs chopping, dicing, and frenetically competing for the World All-Star title… and they do it all in one kitchen. But as in past seasons, do the chefs have to share a bedroom as well? In the video above, cheftestant Buddha Lo reveals that the answer is no! The winner of Top Chef Season 19 shares that a unique “luxury” of filming Season 20 was having his own place to crash at night.
In the video, the Marky’s Caviar and Huso executive chef offers a behind-the-scenes tour of the Kimpton Fitzroy London, where the cheftestants stayed during production. “Welcome to the Top Chef house,” Buddha says, leading the camera into a swanky, marble-clad lobby. “Not bad, huh?” he asks. Not bad at all… and wait until you see Buddha’s room.
“[In] most of the Top Chef locations, we don’t actually have a room [to ourselves] and there were bunk beds in houses before COVID,” he explains. “But [for Season 20], we get the luxury of having our own private room. Nice place to decompress.”
Buddha has stocked his decompression area with a photo of his beloved father, who passed away shortly before Buddha appeared on Top Chef. He also has a framed image of his wife, taken at the spot where they became engaged in New York City.
The cozy room has a queen bed, a bathroom decked in subway tiles, and a view of London’s tree-lined streets. Watch the video above to see the so-called Top Chef house.
Buddha was named the winner of Top Chef during Part 2 of the Season 19 finale, which aired last June. “Growing up in Australia, I dreamed about winning Top Chef,” he said in a statement about his win. “I went on this competition to showcase to the world what I can do. This win was not only for me but was for my late father, an incredible chef who taught me how to cook.”
In an interview on the Season 19 finale, Buddha said, “Today, a 15-year-old boy in regional Australia has lived his dream. I didn’t dream to be an astronaut, I didn’t dream to be anything else. I dreamt to be right here.” He added that his win helped his mission of sharing his father’s gift and legacy.
