The Bud Knight rises! Bud Light renews its 'Game of Thrones' rivalry

He’s baaaaaack! Last seen decimated by a Gregor Clegane special — an eye-gouge followed by a head squish—the Bud Knight has risen again in a new Bud Light advertisement that will premiere this weekend during the NCAA Final Four tournament. The first encounter between Budweiser’s champion and Game of Thrones’s most mountainous knight became Super Bowl LIII’s must buzzed-about ad. And now, the stage is set for a rematch thanks to some dubious, but effective magic. (Watch the new ad below.)

There’s precedent for the Bud Knight’s resurrection, of course. Jon Snow similarly crossed over from death back to life in the second episode of the HBO show’s fifth season. And this 30-second spot recreates that memorable moment with expert precision, right down to the same framing and epic pause before the revived warrior takes his first breath. Of course, Jon’s ressurector, Melisandre, actually understood the power of the spells she was casting. The wizard bringing back the Bud Knight seems more interested in grabbing dinner than overseeing a miracle.

The Bud Knight is equally hungry when he comes back ... albeit for Italian food, not a Round 2 with the Mountain. Besides, Clegane is a little busy protecting Queen Cersei from the many dangers that come with sitting on the Iron Throne in the final season of a show with a notoriously high body count. Here’s hoping the two meet again at some point, though. Maybe during the Tour de France?

“Bud Light: The Return” airs during the NCAA Final Four this weekend. Game of Thrones premieres on April 14 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
