Bucknell University Student Found Dead at Fraternity House: ‘An Unspeakable Loss'

Christian Samay, of New Jersey, was found dead on Saturday, according to the university's president

A Pennsylvania college community is mourning the death of a student who was set to graduate later this year.

Bucknell University student Christian Samay died Saturday on campus, according to a letter from school president John C. Bravman.

The circumstances surrounding the death at the school in Lewisburg “are not suspicious,” he added.

“This is an unspeakable loss for the Bucknell community, and our hearts go out Christian’s family and friends,” Bravman said in his letter.

Members of Bucknell’s on-campus community were alerted to an investigation at the school’s Phi Gamma Delta location on University Avenue Saturday, according to The Tribune Democrat, The Daily Item and PennLive.com.

He was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m. local time, PennLive.com reported.

Samay was from Mountain Lakes, N.J., according to The Tribune Democrat and USA Today. His cause of death has not been released.

Union County Coroner Dominick Adamo has said an investigation into the student’s death is ongoing, according to The Tribune Democrat and The Daily Item.

Adamo also said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, according to PennLive.com. The coroner’s office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Bravmen said Samay’s death was not connected to a reported active shooter that occurred on the Bucknell campus on Friday.

The university has announced that the report of an active shooter “was a hoax coordinated out of Virginia.”

Monday’s classes were canceled at the university following Samay’s death, according to The Daily Item. Counselors and campus chaplains were also made available to students, Bravman said in his letter.

“I call upon all Bucknellians to support each other In this difficult time, and to keep Christian’s family in your prayers,” the school president wrote.
