The Buccaneers Stars Break Down That Finale Wedding Twist and What It Means for Nan, Theo and Guy

Wedding bells rang in the Buccaneers’ Season 1 finale, but it wasn’t exactly a joyous occasion.

Sure, Nan married Theo and gained the duchess title, but it was a strategic move to protect her pregnant sister Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) from an abusive husband. When Nan saw the bruises that Lord Seadown (Barney Fishwick) left on Jinny’s arms, she quickly enacted a plan — with help from her friends — for Jinny to flee the country, using her wedding as the perfect cover.
Nan’s marriage to the duke also meant sacrificing a future with Guy (Matthew Broome), to whom she professed her love and chose to be with the night before. With Guy accompanying Jinny to America to look after her, they now have a literal ocean between them.
“She’s obviously in love with Guy,” Kristine Frøseth, who plays Nan, tells TVLine. “She wants to be with Guy. I honestly do think she should be single right now.”
The Apple TV+ series hasn’t yet been renewed, but if the story were to continue, Frøseth doubts that Nan and Theo’s marriage would be a truly happy one. “They had a foundation,” the actress shares. “They were connecting over the playful nature, the painting. They had small moments but overall, I think it’s not going to be a great marriage. It’s going to be forced.”
Theo portrayer Guy Remmers says the duke knows on some level that Nan has feelings for Guy (Broome), but not “to the extent that the audience knows by the end of Episode 8 how drastic that love is.”
As for Guy, Broome doesn’t think he will sit back and do nothing about Nan despite the extraneous circumstances that now keep them apart.
“He’s a tryer,” the actor says. “I think he’s going to come back. At the moment, what’s going on with Jinny and Seadown is more important, and they make that sacrifice. But they do have that line about love bringing them back together, and I think they both believe that. I think if their love is strong enough, then they will find a way.”
