The singer will be the first member of BTS to have completed their South Korean military requirement later in 2024

Jin of BTS wants the ARMY to know that the best is “Yet to Come” in 2024.

On Sunday, the member of the K-pop group, 31, shared a pre-recorded video on BTS’ official YouTube channel to wish their fans a happy new year and request their patience as he finishes his mandatory service in the South Korean military, now that he only has a few months left.

The singer/dancer — who was the first of BTS to enlist in the service required by all able-bodied men in South Korea — began with a sweet message to welcome 2024. He said excitedly, “Ta-da everyone! Hello! Seok-jin came to say hi for the new year.”

“It’s January, everyone. The new year has come. I will become a year older in January. I’d be in my mid-30s by now,” Jin continued, referring in the video filmed ahead of time that he would have recently celebrated a birthday on Dec. 4.

The performer (whose real name is Kim Seok-jin) then offered warm wishes for the winter ahead. “Did you all make a snowman? I’m still in the past so I don’t know if it’s snowing or not, but if it snowed, you have to make a snowman … and go back to being kids and do snowball fights,” he joked while holding a snowman plush toy.

“What else can you make with snow? You could also go skiing,” continued “The Astronaut” singer. “I’m good at snowboarding, remember? Everytime you go skiing, please think about me. Don’t catch [a] cold. It’d be really cold in January.”

After clarifying again that he filmed the video in advance, the K-pop idol explained that he wanted to make sure he could share an update with fans while they wait for him to complete his service, which he had originally legally deferred for years.

“I’m leaving this video so you can watch my pretty, handsome face and spend January and February warmly,” he said. “I miss you all. I miss you a lot.”

He continued, “Guys, please wait a few more months. Now that it’s the new year, we have a few months left. Make a lot of snowmen and think of me as you make them.”

The video concluded as he waved goodbye and noted that he’d “be back in February and March.”

Jin wasn’t the only member of the Grammy-nominated group to share a “happy new year” message. On New Year’s Eve, V — who just began his enlistment in December — took to the social media platform WeVerse to reflect on what a “special and thankful year” he had.

“This year, I think I worked and moved in a variety of ways, focusing clearly on the military,” the Layover artist, 28, wrote in a post translated from Korean to English.

“After living in such a busy and fierce life, I joined the military. 😂😂,” he wrote after noting the various accomplishments he made as a solo artist in 2023.

The singer-songwriter explained that fans can expect at least one new song from him while his music career is on pause, as he “prepared contents” to drop while he carries out his civic duties.

All members of the seven-piece group — which also includes J-Hope, Jimin, Jungkook, RM and Suga — are currently fulfilling their mandatory service. Because Jin was the first to enroll in late 2022, he’ll be the first to complete the 18-month-long requirement in early 2024.

Jin was followed by J-Hope, 29, who began his term in April 2023. Suga, 30, was next in September, and Jimin, 28, Jungkook, 26, RM, 29, and V all enlisted by the end of the year.

When the “Butter” band’s management BIG HIT MUSIC first announced that all members of the pop group would carry out the South Korean policy back in October 2022, they confirmed that they have plans to reunite by 2025.
