BTS' Jimin, Jungkook, RM and V to Begin Preparing for Mandatory South Korean Military Service

The K-pop group's management BIGHIT MUSIC shared an update to fans on Weverse on Monday

All of BTS is getting ready to complete their mandatory military service ahead of the K-pop group’s reunion in 2025.

BTS’ management BIGHIT MUSIC shared an update about the pop band’s required South Korean military enlistment on the social media platform Weverse on Monday. BIGHIT MUSIC revealed to the seven-piece group’s fanbase known as ARMY that Jimin, Jungkook, RM and V — the band members who have yet to enlist — will begin the process to do so soon.

In their statement to fans, BIGHIT MUSIC wrote, “Thank you for your continued love and support for BTS. We would like to update you on RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook's upcoming enlistment into the military.”

“RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook will fulfill their required time with the military by enlisting in the army. RM and V will be enlisting according to their respective procedures, while Jimin and Jung Kook are scheduled to enlist together,” the post continued.

BTS’ management then noted that there is “no official event on the day of their entry,” and asked that fans simply “convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts only.” They added, “The entrance ceremony is a time to be observed by military personnel and their families only. To prevent any issues that might occur from crowding, fans are advised to refrain from visiting the site.”

BIGHIT MUSIC also advised fans against purchasing any “unauthorized tours or product packages” while the entire band — also featuring members J-Hope, Jin and Suga — fulfills their service duties.

“We ask for your continued love and support for RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook until they complete their military service and return,” the statement concluded. “Our company will also strive to provide all the support they need during this time.”

As South Korean law requires all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28 to serve between 18 and 21 months of military service, all seven members of the “Dynamite” group must complete their service requirement. Their management first announced the K-pop stars’ plans to adhere to their civic duty and eventually reunite in 2025.

Jin, 30, was first to enlist in late 2022, followed by J-Hope, 29, in April of this year and Suga, 30, in September.

BIGHIT MUSIC’s update about the four remaining singers/dancers comes several weeks after Jungkook, 26, also shared a message to fans on Weverse, announcing that his enlistment would begin in December.

"In December, I will start a new journey. I'm leaving you for a short while to serve in the military," the “Seven” singer wrote. "As I share this news, I feel heavy on one hand, and on the other hand, I'm reminded of precious memories with ARMY, so my heart warms up."

He added, "I'm careful to tell you to wait for me while I'm in the military. A year and a half is a long time, so I can't say anything selfish. When I return, I promise to stand on stage in the same spot I always was and with a more grown appearance."

While each member of the “Butter” band has worked on solo projects ahead of their reunion, early next year marks the first time all seven performers will be completing their service.

Ahead of every performers' pause, an eight-part docuseries, BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star, will be released on Disney+. The series about the "Permission to Dance" group's rise over the past decade premieres on Dec. 20.
