Bryson Tiller Announces Self-Titled Album, Releases New Single “Calypso”

Bryson Tiller reveals his next album as a self-titled exploration of R&B. The 31-year-old also announced a North American tour featuring 30 performances this spring and summer and released the first single, officially marking a new era.
The new song, “Calypso,” explores a steamy romance that evolves through a night out. According to a press statement, the track gives fans a glimpse into the innovative sound and heartfelt storytelling that will be fully explored in the upcoming album.
The album and tour come after the singer officially released the fan-favorite “Whatever She Wants” from his popular Slum Tiller series on SoundCloud last month.
“I felt like now is the time to just show people what I’m capable of,” detailed the Kentucky native of the album to Complex. Victoria Monét is set to be the only featured artist. The project is due on April 5 via Trapsoul/RCA Records.
“I’ve been doing it by myself for years. Since my first very first album, Trapsoul, it’s just been me in the studio writing my stuff—not producing it, but just writing stuff, arranging stuff—and I got to a point where I was like, ‘Man, everybody else and all my other peers, they’re not doing it by themselves.’ They’re working with people, and they should be working with people, because music is a collaborative thing. And I finally was just like, ‘You know what, it’s my turn to collaborate with some people that I respect.’ And it’s time to show people that I know how to make some sh*t.”
He continued to detail how Bryson Tiller may be the beginning of a temporary end.
“I would love for [Bryson Tiller] to be the last one for a while. I’ve been saying that regardless if it performs well or not. This is probably gonna be my last one for a minute. I just want to take a hiatus because my No. 1 passion is video games. I’m a designer in my spare time. I’ve been designing a game for the past three years. I’ve been looking into internships for different companies.”
The “Don’t” singer added, “That’s what I want to prioritize after this album comes out. Obviously I’m going to go out and touch the people, see the world, and tour as much as I can. But I want to focus on first getting closer to my daughters. My oldest daughter is 10 years old now, and I’m tired of telling her that I have to work, or I have to be in the studio and make an album, before we can hang out. I’m just getting tired of telling her that.”
