Bryce Harper Helps Fan Ask a Girl to Prom: 'I Thought I'd Help Him Out'

Bryce Harper has added a new title to his resume — wingman!

The Philadelphia Phillies star, 31, helped Haddonfield Memorial High School senior Jake Portella pull off the promposal of a lifetime in a sweet video that has gone viral across social media.

The video begins with a view of Portella and Harper standing at the footsteps of a home as Portella's now-prom date, Giulia, opens the door, saying, "Oh my god!"

After Giulia closes the door, seemingly in shock, she opens it again and says, "I'm going to cry," as she finally steps outside.

As Giulia smiles with her hands over her mouth, Harper says, "Jake wants to ask you to prom, so I thought I'd help him out and ask if you'd want to go to prom with him."

She immediately looks at Portella and says, "I'd love to," causing Harper to ask, "So, will you go to prom with him?"

After declaring "Yes," Giulia asks Harper for a hug and calls him the "GOAT" before letting out a loud scream and hugging Portella.

During a Monday, May 20, appearance on The Phantastic Sports Show on FOX 29, Portella said he lives in the same neighborhood as Harper, which helped him pull off the special moment.

"I knocked on his door, and he seemed cool with it at first, but he was like, 'Can I get your email so we can plan, like, set this up?' And as I was leaving, he was like, 'Why don't we do this right now?' And I couldn't turn that down," Portella said.

According to the high school student, the baseball star then got in his car and followed him to Giulia's home, calling the process "straightforward."

Speaking about how the prom invite has gone viral, he added, "I wasn't expecting this; I thought it'd be something cool among my friends and people in my town and stuff."

Apart from helping Portella, Harper has been keeping busy as a new father-of-three. He and his wife, Kayla Harper, announced the arrival of their third baby together, a daughter named Kamryn Ray Harper, in an Instagram post on Wednesday, May 1.
