Bryan Fuller and A24 have severed ties over the “Friday the 13th” Peacock prequel series.

The show was announced in 2022 at Peacock with the title “Crystal Lake,” and while details were kept under wraps, the series was confirmed to be a prequel to the original 1980 slasher film that followed the Voorhees mother-son duo as teenagers were murdered at an abandoned summer camp.

The series will go on, IndieWire has confirmed. A24 will remain the studio and Peacock the platform — they’re currently searching for a new showunner. Production on the series had yet to start.

Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with. These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me,” Fuller captioned on Instagram. “For reasons beyond our control, A24 has elected to go a different way with the material. We hope the final product will be something ‘Friday the 13th’ fans all over the world will enjoy.”

Fuller was set to executive produce alongside Marc Toberoff, Rob Barsamian, and original film screenwriter Victor Miller.

Fuller’s TV credits span from being the creator and executive producer for “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Short Treks,” “Dead Like Me,” “Wonderfalls,” and “Pushing Daisies.” He previously ran “Silence of the Lambs” prequel show “Hannibal,” which Fuller referenced in his social media post.

“When it works, as with ‘Hannibal,’ the results can be powerful for the storytellers and the audience,” Fuller said of the “Friday the 13th” series being scrapped. “I couldn’t be more proud of the work my co-showrunner Jim Danger Gray and I were able to accomplish with our brilliant writing staff despite the challenges we faced.”

“Hannibal” actor Mads Mikkelsen told Business Insider earlier this year that the NBC thriller series might land a reboot.

“I really don’t want to go back to any of my characters, except maybe for Hannibal because he’s not over yet,” Mikkelsen said. “It’s no secret that all of us who were part of the cast and Bryan [Fuller], we all want to go back. It’s got to happen eventually sooner than later because we’re not getting any younger, right?”

He continued, “But the story itself can jump, it can have that gap, which is fine. So it’s all about finding a home for it, but that’s nothing concrete out there now. […] We love the show and there seem to be a lot of other people liking it as well.”

Mikkelsen later reunited with “Hannibal” showrunner Fuller for the film “Dust Bunny” — Mikkelsen said the collaboration gave him a “little whiff of the old times.” The “Casino Royale” alum added that Fuller has “got a few ideas” for how to reboot the show.
