Bryan Cranston Reveals Secrets Behind Tighty-Whities in Acting Roles

On Sunday’s 60 Minutes, Bryan Cranston was interviewed on the set of his new show, Sneaky Pete. He and Steve Kroft talked about the actor’s unexpected rise to fame and the many roles he’s played, including Walter White on AMC’s Breaking Bad and Hal on the Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. While his two most recognized TV roles were very different, Cranston noted they had a surprising similarity: tighty-whities.

Cranston explained that he had specific intentions when it came to the underwear worn by both characters. He said, “For Hal, it was that he was just a big boy, so the tighty-whities seemed to make sense. For Walt, the tighty-whities also made sense because they were pathetic.”

Kroft asked, “Does that mean you wear boxers?” Cranston answered, “I do wear boxers. Or nothing at all.”

60 Minutes airs Sundays at 7 p.m. on CBS.
