Bruce Springsteen returns to SiriusXM radio with show featuring '60s Freehold bands

Bruce Springsteen is returning to radio, and he's bringing the Freehold crew with him.

Mike Wilson, Mike Domanski and Donnie Powell, members of the mid-'60s Freehold band the Legends, and Craig Caprioni, singer for the Rogues, Springsteen's very first band, have recorded an episode of the Boss' “From My Home to Yours” show.

It will air at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, on SiriusXM's E Street Radio.

“It was fun,” said Wilson, who became the mayor of Freehold after his rock 'n' roll days. “We reminisced about our high school years, his band, our band. There were a lot of local bands around like that.”

Springsteen was a member of the Castiles of Freehold from 1965 to '68. On the Boss' current tour with the E Street Band, he references the late Castiles member George Theiss. Both Springsteen and Wilson's groups rehearsed at the home of Marion and Gordon “Tex” Vinyard in Freehold.

“We talked about the songs we were playing when we were in high school,” Wilson said. “The '60s was a great time for music. You had regular rock 'n' roll, you had Motown and then you had the British Invasion and doo-wop."

Springsteen, 74, and the E Street Band announced on Sept. 27 that they have postponed shows for the rest of the year as the Boss continues to recover “steadily” from peptic ulcer disease. Rescheduled dates for each of the 2023 shows are expected soon.

“He's coming along,” Wilson said. “He looked good.”

The upcoming episode was recorded in Colts Neck two weeks ago. During the pandemic, 29 episodes of Springsteen's “From My Home to Yours” aired from April 2020 to October 2021.
