Bruce Springsteen Postpones Remaining 2023 Tour Dates amid Peptic Ulcer Disease Recovery

A statement shared on Wednesday said the rocker "will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor's advice"

Bruce Springsteen is continuing to focus on his health.

On Wednesday, a statement was posted to the rock legend’s social media to announce that his remaining 2023 tour dates with The E Street Band will be postponed to 2024 as he continues to recover from peptic ulcer disease. The announcement comes several weeks after the Grammy winner, 74, postponed his September dates and shared he was being treated for the health condition.

“Bruce Springsteen has continued to recover steadily from peptic ulcer disease over the past few weeks and will continue treatment through the rest of the year on doctor's advice,” the statement said. “With this in mind, and out of an abundance of caution, all remaining 2023 tour dates for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will be postponed until 2024.”

The Boss himself also shared a statement, reassuring fans that his health is improving. He said, “Thanks to all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support. I'm on the mend and can't wait to see you all next year.”

The statement additionally explained that the new dates for all postponed concerts will be announced next week. The shows will be held at the same venues, but refunds will be available upon request, per the note.

Springsteen originally postponed two shows in Philadelphia in mid-August after being “taken ill.” Although no additional details were available at the time, it was disclosed that he was recovering from peptic ulcer disease once his September performances were announced as being postponed.

At the time, the “Born in the U.S.A.” artist said he was “heartbroken to have to postpone these shows” in a statement on social media.

“We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some," he continued. "Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon."

According to Mayo Clinic, peptic ulcer disease is when a small sore develops on the inner stomach lining and a portion of the small intestine, typically causing burning stomach pain.

Springsteen and The E Street Band kicked off their tour in February, which marked the group’s first U.S. tour since 2016 and their first string of international dates since 2017.

When  the tour was announced in 2022, the “Born to Run” singer raved to SiriusXM channel E Street Radio host Jim Rotolo about his excitement to get back out on the road.

"It's kind of mind-boggling, to be honest with you," he said. "It doesn't feel that long, but… I've got the jones to play live very badly at this point. So I'm deeply looking forward to getting out there in front of our fans."
