Bruce Springsteen Announces New Western Stars Film

A companion visual for Bruce’s latest album is set to premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival

Bruce Springsteen has announced a film to accompany his new album Western Stars. The movie, also titled Western Stars, is directed by Thom Zimny and Bruce Springsteen. It is set to premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, which runs from September 5 to 15.

In a recent interview with Dave Marsh and Jim Rotolo on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, Bruce Springsteen explained, “We made a film of the Western Stars album, where I play the record start to finishm along with some other things.” He continued, “’Cause we weren’t going to tour—we knew we weren’t going to tour—so I was looking for a way to get some of the music lives to the audience, and so we figured that was the best way to do it.”

In December 2018, Springsteen released an official soundtrack for his one-man Broadway show Springsteen on Broadway. That same month, Springsteen on Broadway premiered as a special on Netflix. Also last year, Springsteen received the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre and performed “My Hometown” at the ceremony.
