USC Basketball star Bronny James has been cleared to return to basketball following his cardiac arrest in July.

The 19-year-old son of NBA legend LeBron James went into cardiac arrest during a basketball workout at the Southern California university on July 24 and was later diagnosed with "an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect" by doctors.

On Thursday, a representative for the James family confirmed Bronny will return to the court soon in a statement issued to PEOPLE.

“Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball. Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after," the statement read.

Bronny's health concerns kept him from participating in the first months of practice with his USC teammates, as well as the Trojans' first weeks of games.

USC's current record for the season without Bronny is currently at five wins and two losses.

In May, LeBron said the day his son committed to play basketball for USC was "one of the best days of my life."

"First of all, congratulations to Bronny on the decision he made. I'm super proud of him, our family is proud of him," LeBron said on Spectrum SportsNet at the time.

"For me personally, it's even more special to me because it's the first time someone out of my family to go to college. Obviously, I didn't go to college."

He continued: "It's just a proud moment to see my son go to college, and he's the first one to go college in my family. Super duper proud, super emotional but just super duper excited and happy for his journey," he concluded.
