Shucked is bringing corn to the big screen.

The Broadway musical had its closing night on Sunday, and afterward, producer Mike Bosner announced onstage that a feature film is in the works.

“We’re all a little sad to say goodbye to this. But there’s some good news: We don’t have to say goodbye just yet," he said in a video from the moment. "Because I’m happy to announce that we will be making a feature film of Shucked."

The official Shucked Instagram account shared the clip and wrote, "Eternally grateful for the Broadway community and for you #MotherShuckers who embraced our little town. Second slide for some news about what’s next for the corn."

PEOPLE confirmed that the film version's screenplay will be by book writer Robert Horn, with music and lyrics from the musical's team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally.

The show opened at New York City's Nederlander Theatre on April 4, 2023. Its story is about the fictional Cobb County, which panics when its corn crops mysteriously start dying.

Shucked star Alex Newell won a Tony Award last year for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical, and it was also nominated for best musical, among other honors.

Shucked's North American tour launches this fall in Nashville. The show will also premiere in London in 2025, and a spring 2026 Australian production is in the works too.
