Broadway for Orlando Stars Perform Live Cover of ‘What the World Needs Now’

During the Tuesday airing of Maya and Marty, the Broadway for Orlando initiative performed a live cover of the song “What the World Needs Now” to honor the victims of the Orlando mass shooting.

Earlier in the week, some of the theater community’s biggest names, like Whoopi Goldberg and Lin-Manuel Miranda, recorded a cover of the song, which was then offered on iTunes. All of the proceeds from sales of the song are going to the LGBT Center of Central Florida.

The live performance featured such Broadway greats as Brian Stokes Mitchell, Norm Lewis, and Jessie Mueller. Hopefully the song inspired some of the viewers to get involved in making tomorrow a brighter world.

Maya and Marty airs at 10 p.m. on NBC.
