Broadway in Chicago 2024 season: ‘Girl From the North Country,’ ‘The Kite Runner’ and ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’

Downtown theater presenter Broadway in Chicago on Wednesday announced its upcoming 2024 season, with “Girl From the North Country,” “The Kite Runner” and “Mrs. Doubtfire” joining the recently announced world premiere “Death Becomes Her.” Subscriptions go on sale to the public Oct. 4. “Girl From the North Country” (Feb. 13-25, 2024, at CIBC Theatre, 18 W. Monroe St.): Written and directed by Conor McPherson, with orchestrations by Simon Hale, this 2020 musical is set in 1934 in Duluth, Minnesota, and re-imagines songs from Bob Dylan including “Forever Young,” “All Along the Watchtower” and “Like a Rolling Stone.”

“Mrs. Doubtfire” (Feb. 27 to March 10, 2024, at the Nederlander Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St.): Broadway lead Rob McClure will reprise his performance as the titular out-of-work actor on the national tour, directed by Jerry Zaks.

“Peter Pan” (March 26 to April 7, 2024, at the Nederlander Theatre): The new adaptation by playwright Larissa FastHorse, directed by Lonny Price with choreography by Lorin Latarro, is now on tour.

“Mamma Mia!” (April 30 to May 19, 2024, at the Nederlander Theatre): There they go again. The longtime musical about a mother and daughter is told through the jukebox hits of ABBA.

“Death Becomes Her” (April 30 to June 2, 2024, at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph St.): A newly-announced pre-Broadway world premiere of a musical adapted from the 1992 movie.

“The Kite Runner” (June 11-23, 2024, at CIBC Theatre): The 2022 Broadway play was adapted by Matthew Spangler from Khaled Hosseini’s novel set in a divided Afghanistan.

Next spring also includes the following offseason titles:

“Message in a Bottle” (Feb. 28 to March 3, 2024, at the Cadillac Palace Theatre): A dance-theater production by Sadler’s Wells artist Kate Prince, set to the music of Sting, including “Every Breath You Take,” “Roxanne” and “Fields of Gold.”

“Pretty Woman: The Musical” (March 12-17, 2024, at CIBC Theatre): The musical first seen in Chicago, based on the movie with an original score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

“On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan” (March 19-24, 2024, at CIBC Theatre): The story and music of the husband-and-wife musical team, with songs including “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Conga” and “Get On Your Feet.” Another musical first seen in Chicago, with a debut in 2015.
