The guest-star wattage on Season 4 of Broad City is so bright, you may have to wear shades. Creators/stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson followed up last year’s headline-making Hillary Clinton cameo by booking such high-profile names as Shania Twain, Wanda Sykes, Steve Buscemi, and RuPaul Charles. “It feels surprising, but then it’s like, no it’s not,” Glazer explains to Yahoo TV. “We’re drawn to them because they’re chill. … We get to work with these people we’ve looked up to our whole lives. I’ve been in love with RuPaul since I was a child!” And the duo drops another boldfaced name whom the duo were thrilled to work with: Peri Gilpin of the classic NBC sitcom Frasier. “She is my mom,” Jacobson excitedly reveals before momentarily checking herself. “Should I not have done that?” Maybe not, but we’re glad you did!
In the video below, Glazer and Jacobson take a moment to express their delighted bewilderment at trading hipster Brooklyn for geeky San Diego. “What kind of drugs do these nerds do?” Glazer wonders aloud. “Are they, like, Red Bull and weed people?” More like “butterbeer and super soldier serum” people, actually.
Broad City premieres Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
