Britney Spears Says She’s ‘In Love’ with Justin Timberlake’s New Song ‘Selfish'

Spears praised her ex Timberlake's new lead single in a post on Instagram Sunday

Britney Spears is full of praise for Justin Timberlake’s new single “Selfish.”

In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, Spears, 42, celebrated Timberlake’s lead single and his second new track “Sanctified,” which he debuted on Saturday Night Live at the weekend.

Spears, who split from Timberlake in 2002, also said sorry to anyone she “offended” with her memoir, The Woman in Me, in the post.

“I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book. If I offended any of the people I genuinely care about I am deeply sorry…” she wrote. “I also wanted to say I am in love with Justin Timberlake’s new song 'Selfish' 🌹 It is soo good and how come every time I see Justin and Jimmy together I laugh so hard ??? Ps 'Sanctified' is wow 🤩 too.”

The post featured a video of Timberlake, 42, appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, where he, Fallon and The Roots performed a fun medley of some of his biggest songs, along with “Selfish,” soundtracked by classroom instruments.

In her autobiography, Spears details her past relationship with Timberlake, including revealing that she had an abortion after becoming pregnant with the singer’s baby because he “didn’t want to be a father.”

“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote of the pregnancy in her book. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."

"If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father,” she added.

She also wrote of her experience undergoing the abortion: “To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life."

Spears' memoir also delves into her conservatorship experience, relationship with her family and her “passionate” fling with Colin Farrell.

Meanwhile, her Instagram post comes after her 2011 track “Selfish” overtook Timberlake's song of the same name on iTunes following a push from her fans to support the 13-year-old track.

The song reached the No. 1 spot on the iTunes charts on Friday, while Timberlake’s single, which was released Thursday, sat at No. 3 as "Selfish by Britney Spears" trended on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Timberlake's "Selfish" and "Sanctified” feature on the father of two’s upcoming album, Everything I Thought It Was, which he will release on March 15.

The new record marks the Trolls Band Together star’s first studio album since 2018's Man of the Woods.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 about "Selfish" on Thursday, Timberlake said that his new material will give his fans a "real" perspective on his life.

"I was able, on some of the songs, to look back at the past and have a real, not a refracted perspective of what it was because they always say ... you always hear that thing about, well, there's never any truth, there's just everybody's perspective of what happened," he said.

Timberlake also added, "But to really look at it and be able to metabolize and verbalize my perspective on it, I don't think I've ever really done that before."

With the new album also comes a new tour, as Timberlake announced his Forget Tomorrow World Tour on The Tonight Show to huge cheers.

"This is a world tour!" shouted Fallon excitedly during the episode. "It's gonna be fun," he added of the upcoming live performances, which begin in April in Vancouver, Canada.
