Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have settled their divorce nine months after filing to end their marriage.

The pop star, 42, and aspiring actor/model, 30, upheld the terms of their prenuptial agreement and the divorce papers now await a judge to finalize the split, according to PEOPLE. A source told the outlet: "The divorce was amicable and the prenup was not challenged. Britney is continuing to flex her freedom and is moving on."

Representatives for Spears and Asghari didn't immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.

The two first met on the set of Spears' "Slumber Party" music video in 2016 and wed in June 2022 at Spears' Los Angeles home, nearly a year after a judge terminated the pop star's 13-year conservatorship in November 2021.

The latest divorce development comes after Spears settled her legal battle with estranged father Jamie Spears earlier this week, a dispute that stemmed from Jamie's legal fees and the handling of his daughter's finances under the conservatorship.  Jamie has denied any wrongdoing.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed to the public, but it has prevented the father and daughter from going to trial. Spears previously accused her father of conservatorship abuse, among other allegations.

In a statement to EW, Spears' attorney Mathew S. Rosengart said the settlement has ensured that her "wish for freedom is now truly complete,” He said, “As she desired and instructed, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to be involved with court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.”
