Update: Britney Spears has responded to reports that she is working on a new album, saying that she will “never return to the music industry.”

Britney Spears has reportedly lined up some heavy-hitting songwriters for her 10th studio album. As reported by The Sun and now confirmed by Page Six, the pop star has recruited Charli XCX for the comeback project.

According to Page Six, hitmaker Julia Michaels will be joining Charli XCX to pen songs on the album, which will mark Spears’ first studio full-length since 2016’s Glory. No new material has been recorded as of yet, as the LP is “only starting to take shape.”

The album will be Spears’ first since being freed from her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, though she has released a few singles: “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John and “Mind Your Business” with will.i.am.

Though Charli XCX is best known for pushing the boundaries of pop music as an artist, she has also penned hits like “I Love It” by Icona Pop, “Same Old Love” by Selena Gomez, and “OMG” by Camila Cabello. Meanwhile, Michaels has also worked with Gomez along with the likes of Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, and Spears herself (“Slumber Party”) in addition to being a solo act.

Last October, Spears released her memoir, The Woman in Me, in which the artist said she felt “infantilized” during her conservatorship and revealed that she had an abortion with her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Check out our book review, and pick up a copy here.
