Lynne Spears, the mother of pop star Britney Spears, is reportedly working as a substitute teacher to pay her bills.

The 41-year-old pop star has been estranged from her 68-year-old mother for years, although she did allow her mother to visit her at her Thousand Oaks estate in May.

Lynne Spears previously worked as a teacher and even ran a daycare in Kentwood, Louisiana, before her daughter became an international superstar.

On Tuesday, sources told the Daily Mail that she is struggling financially and has taken up a position as a part-time substitute teacher at a local school to supplement her income.

"She is struggling to pay her bills, but she has already substituted for several classes at [a local school]," one source told the outlet, who said that substitute teachers in the area usually make around $15 dollars an hour.

Lynne currently lives in a $2 million mansion that was built by her daughter in 2001. The insider indicated that Lynne's money troubles are due to their complicated relationship, alleging that the rift has "seriously impacted" her financial affairs.

According to the outlet, Lynne Spears filed for chapter 7, known as liquidation bankruptcy, in 1998. She previously owned five companies at one point, including Britney Online, Inc. and One More Time Music, Inc., but is no longer involved in running any of them.

She also no longer owns her own property, as per the outlet. In 2021, she sold Britney’s childhood home for a reported $275,000.

Britney has publicly accused her mother of failing to support her during her conservatorship, which lasted from February 2008 to November 2021. During that time, Britney's personal and financial affairs were largely controlled by her father, Jamie Spears.

Things between Britney and her mother did not get any better after her conservatorship ended, when Lynne asked a court to force Britney's estate to pay the $660,000 attorney bill for her conservatorship lawyers, Yasha Bronshteyn and Gladstone N. Jones III, who she said she hired to "save her daughter" from "incredibly abusive acts of her father."

Britney’s Lawyer Claims The Pop Star Spent Over $1.7M On Lynne Spears Over The Years

In April 2022, Britney's lawyer Mathew Rosengart fought the claim, arguing, "There is no legal authority supporting Lynne's claims that she should be able to collect funds from her daughter's estate."

Further court documents revealed that Rosengart claimed that the "Toxic" singer had spent approximately $1.7 million on her mother over the years. He claimed that Lynne had "for at least a decade resided in a large, expansive house owned by Britney," who "paid Lynne Spears' utilities, telephone services, insurance, property taxes, landscaping, pool work, pest control, repairs and maintenance," according to the legal filing.

In court documents obtained by The Blast in October of that same year, Lynne withdrew her $660,000 claim. A source told the outlet that she did so in the hopes of repairing her relationship with her daughter.

"This was the final nail in the coffin for Lynne," the insider stated. "She could not fight with Britney anymore and she knew that asking her to pay her half-million dollar lawyer bill was not right, considering what Britney had been through."

"Not only that, but Lynne was really trying to repair her relationship with Britney," they added. "Taking more money from her was not the way to do it."

Although Britney reportedly "approved" of her younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears joining the cast of "Dancing With The Stars" this season, some sources say that they are still on the outs amid the pop star's divorce from actor Sam Asghari.

Shortly after the actor filed for divorce on August 16, a source told Page Six that the pop star is still not “on good terms with her family” despite meeting up with them earlier this summer. “Her meeting with her mom, went OK, but there’s still a lot of hurt there, so they haven’t quite reconciled,” the source said. “Britney is still very angry with Jamie Lynn, too.”

Later that day, another insider told TMZ that the "Mind Your Business" singer was still “isolated” from her family and not speaking with them. One source told the outlet: “She has one confidant, [her manager] Cade [Hudson]. Then there’s her security team, and after that, her support system falls off a cliff.”
