Just days after Jada Pinkett Smith dropped relationship bombs on her own book tour, Britney Spears is now promoting her memoir, The Woman in Me, where she reveals she had an abortion while dating fellow singer Justin Timberlake.

According to an excerpt obtained by People, the pop star was surprised to learn of her pregnancy, but didn’t consider it a “tragedy” because of the love she had for the NSYNC member.

“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much,” she writes in the book of the pregnancy. “I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.

“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy,” she went on. “He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

The two pop stars dated between 1999 and 2002 and were around 19 years old when they mutually decided to end the pregnancy, TMZ reports.

Spears would go on to become a mother in 2005 when she welcomed her first son, Sean Preston, with ex-husband, Kevin Federline. The couple went on to welcome son Jayden James the following year, but would part ways Nov. 2006, just two months after his birth.

Timberlake has been married to actress Jessica Biel since 2012, sharing two children; Silas and Phineas, born in 2015 and 2020, respectively.
