Britney Spears claims her father Jamie Spears only saw her as a means for his "cash flow."

The pop icon, 41, reveals in her upcoming memoir The Woman in Me that during her conservatorship, which began in 2008 amid personal struggles, she was deemed "too sick to choose my own boyfriend and yet somehow healthy enough to appear on sitcoms and morning shows, and to perform for thousands of people in a different part of the world every week.”

“From that point on, I began to think that he saw me as put on the earth for no other reason than to help their cash flow,” Britney writes of her father's control when the conservatorship started. She claims he told her, “I’m Britney Spears now.”

Britney — who also says that Jamie often body-shamed her — writes that during the conservatorship she "went from partying a lot to being a total monk.“

"Security guards handed me prepackaged envelopes of meds and watched me take them. They put parental controls on my iPhone. Everything was scrutinized and controlled. Everything,” the "Hold Me Closer" singer writes.

The Woman in Me comes nearly two years after Britney was released from her court-ordered conservatorship, which had been in place for 13 years. The conservatorship was terminated in November 2021 after Britney delivered a passionate public testimony in court in June 2021.

According to a press release from Gallery Books, Britney's memoir will reveal “for the first time her incredible journey (and) strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history" and “illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE by email, the "Lucky" musician reflected on her life post-conservatorship.

“Learning this new freedom, I’ll admit, is challenging at times,” she said.

The pop superstar also addressed the importance of being able to tell her story on her own terms.

“Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me. After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life," she told PEOPLE.

Britney will release her much-anticipated memoir on Oct. 24, through Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
